How to Read Your Brain Map: A Beginner’s Guide

Your qEEG comes back as a set of colorful heads. Here is what those colors actually mean.

A qEEG brain map is a picture of how your brain is firing, band by band. After a 30-minute scan, your activity is compared across five speeds of brainwaves, and the result is a set of maps showing where you produce more or less of each one.

The five bands in one minute

  • Delta (0.5–4 Hz): deep sleep and repair
  • Theta (4–8 Hz): drowsiness and daydream
  • Alpha (8–12 Hz): calm, relaxed alertness
  • Beta (12–30 Hz): active, focused thinking
  • Gamma (30+ Hz): fast, whole-brain integration

Patterns you might recognize

The map is never about one number. It is about balance. A few patterns show up again and again: a brain producing lots of fast activity at rest often belongs to someone who describes a racing mind and trouble switching off at night. A brain heavy on slow activity during the day often belongs to someone who describes fog, drift, and losing the afternoon. These are patterns, not diagnoses, and that difference matters. Patterns can be trained.

From map to plan

Your map becomes your baseline. From it, a training plan is built: which patterns to reward, in what order, and how many sessions to expect. Training then rewards your brain, in real time, for moving toward a better balance. Weeks later, a re-scan puts the before and after side by side, so you can see the change, not just feel it.
