The Science

Your brain speaks in waves.

Five bands, from deep-sleep delta to lightning-fast gamma. Here is what each one does, in plain English, and how we read yours.

The five bands, decoded.

Delta0.5–4 Hz

Its jobDeep, dreamless sleep. This is when your brain repairs, files memories, and recharges.

When it’s offToo little at night and you wake up unrested no matter how long you slept.

Theta4–8 Hz

Its jobDrowsiness, daydreaming, and creative drift. The bridge between awake and asleep.

When it’s offToo much during the day often feels like fog, spacing out, and trouble staying on task.

Alpha8–12 Hz

Its jobCalm, present idle. The relaxed-but-alert state your brain should rest in between tasks.

When it’s offToo little and you struggle to unwind. Your engine idles too high.

Beta12–30 Hz

Its jobActive, focused thinking. Problem-solving, conversation, getting things done.

When it’s offToo much at rest reads as a racing mind: overthinking, tension, trouble switching off.

Gamma30+ Hz

Its jobFast integration. Moments when everything clicks and the whole brain works as one.

When it’s offRare and brief by nature. You want the conditions that let it happen.

WHAT YOUR MIX SAYS

It’s the balance, not one wave.

A racing mind that won’t switch off often shows up as too much fast activity at rest. Brain fog often shows up as too much slow activity during the day. Neither is a diagnosis. They are patterns, and patterns can be trained.

Your qEEG brain map shows your personal mix across all five bands. That becomes your baseline, your plan is built around it, and a re-scan later shows exactly what changed.

Quick answers

Brainwaves, FAQ’d.

What are brainwaves?

Brainwaves are the rhythmic electrical pulses your brain cells use to communicate. They are grouped into five bands by speed: delta, theta, alpha, beta, and gamma. Each band dominates a different state, from deep sleep to sharp focus.

What does a brainwave map show?

A qEEG brainwave map measures activity across 21 points on your scalp and shows how much of each band your brain produces, where, and when. It reveals the patterns behind how you focus, sleep, and handle stress.

Can you change your brainwaves?

Yes, within your brain's natural range. That is what neurofeedback training does: it rewards your brain in real time for shifting toward healthier patterns, and over weeks your brain learns to hold them on its own.

Which brainwave is best for focus?

No single band is best. Focus is a balance: enough beta for active thinking, enough alpha to stay calm, and not too much theta pulling you into fog. That balance is exactly what a brain map measures.
